Have you ever encountered the fear of failure? This is a feeling that comes across people when they automatically think they are unable to accomplish something. This type of thinking can paralyze people from living a healthy balanced life. This is never a mindset that you want to adopt. The fear of failure keeps you from growing and experiencing life’s greatest moments. This mindset can also steal parts of your life.
I want to briefly talk about a friend of mine who had this issue. She was extremely smart, beautiful, and exceptionally talented. You would never think that she had this issue inside of her. School came easy for her, she didn’t have to study, she participated in many school activities, and she was also the star of the girls volleyball team. I always admired her and all of her talents, but one day it all came crashing down. My friend, who I had known for several years, had an anxiety attack. She had to be treated for this through counseling. After several sessions, she realized that she had a fear of failure. Although people expected her to do well in everything, she never felt pressured by them. She realized that she put those high expectations on herself and the fact that she didn’t want to disappoint anyone caused her to “fear failure.”
I share this with you to remind you to take one day at a time. Don’t put unnecessary pressure on yourself. Adopt a new mindset about failure. Don’t always look at failure as a negative, because there are always lessons to learn on that road to success. I’ll close this message with one of my favorite quotes about failure.
“It is impossible to live without failing at something, unless you live so cautiously that you might as well not have lived at all, in which case you have failed by default.” - J.K. Rowling
