I hope that you are enjoying the summer and making the most of it.
This week we are celebrating the 4th of July…Independence Day! What a great reason to celebrate…..independence.
Independence is a beautiful state of being – the state of being in control of you and all that pertains to you. Being independent means that you are not influenced or controlled by the actions or opinions of others and you are not dependent on them to sustain who you are. From the time we are born we are on the path to independence, first steps to first grade and beyond. As we learn and grow we become less and less dependent on our parents, family, teachers and mentors – this is the way it should be.
There is nothing that can replace the sense of accomplishment and pride you feel when you discover what you can do on your own. It is perfectly alright to utilize the resources available to you on your journey to independence, but the decisions along the way should be yours. Be them right or wrong (at the time) they should be your own. Part of being independent is being responsible and accountable for the decisions you make and the way you act on them.
Think back to the first competition you entered, the first time you prepared a meal or even your first job. These are accomplishments that gave you the confidence and self-assuredness to move to the next level. These are steps to independence. Celebrate your accomplishments and recognize how much closer you are to being independent.
Please comment and tell me what independence means to you and the things you are doing to become an independent being. I can’t wait to hear from you, and remember……
Always do you,
